FDA Approves New Crohn's Disease Medical Treatment

Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease and can affect any portion of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. The new medical treatment method for Crohn's and ulcerative colitis is that of Entyvio, which is an injection for adults who have moderate to severe cases of these illnesses. This new treatment has been approved to treat cases where primary methods have not helped relieve symptoms in patients.

No long range testing of the medical treatment has been conducted yet, which is always concerning, especially in a situation like this one where many individuals could be interested in trying it. Entyvio was approved by the FDA after clinical trials were performed on more than 900 patients whose symptoms from ulcerative colitis were not relieve by corticosteroids or immunomodulators. Clinical trials involving 1,500 patients with Crohn's disease found that Entyvio was more effective for patients who did not see results from the aforementioned medical treatment methods.
